Position Summary:

​

We are seeking an innovative Algorithm Developer/Chemometrician to join our research and development team. The ideal candidate will lead the development effort of Alakai’s Algorithm team which includes both AI/ML and classic statistical approaches. This role requires a strong background in computational methods dealing with Raman Spectroscopy.

​

Essential Functions:

​

  • Design and Develop Algorithms which can successfully predict the presence of chemicals from a ~1000 element chemical library

  • Organize and maintain spectra libraries/databases, ensuring data is structured, clean, and accessible for further analysis or modeling.

  • Apply machine learning techniques (e.g., supervised, unsupervised, or reinforcement learning) to predict chemical properties, optimize molecular structures, or automate the discovery of new compounds.

  • Train, tune, and evaluate machine learning models, ensuring they perform optimally. This may involve cross-validation, hyperparameter tuning, and model selection.

  • Experience with chemical measurement systems, signal processing, and Monte Carlo simulation is highly desired.

Required Competencies:

​

  • Algorithm development experience with some form of Spectroscopy (Raman preferred)

  • Programming experience with Python, C++, C# and ML toolsets such as PyTourch, etc.

  • Ability to approach problems methodically, interpret computational results with a critical eye, and validate or refine models based on physical principles and experimental data.

  • Skilled at interdisciplinary collaboration and communication.

  • Fluency in English.

Supervisory Responsibility:

Team Leader

​

Required Education and Experience:

​

  • Degree in Engineering, Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics or a technical field

  • 3 years experience developing spectroscopy based algorithms on ~1000 element chemical libraries for a commercial product.

  • 3 years experience with Python, C++ or C#.

  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

  • Strong communication skills for collaborating with technical and non-technical teams.

Preferred Education and Experience:

​

  • 10 years experience developing spectroscopy based algorithms on multiple products

  • Experience with algorithms that can detect mixtures of chemicals

  • Experience with Raman based algorithm development of greater than 5000 chemical libraries

  • Experience with advanced ML based techniques (i.e. Few-Shot Adversarial Domain Adaptation, etc.)

  • Experience leading a team of 3-5 individuals

  • Advanced degree preferred

Work Authorization/Security Clearance

  • Eligibility for Department of Defense Security Clearance required. Active Department of Defense Secret Clearance preferred.

​

The employee is routinely required to sit; perform repetitive keyboard operations; utilize laboratory equipment and analytical instrumentation. The employee is occasionally exposed to chemicals and hazardous materials (including but not limited to corrosives, flammables, compressed gases, explosives, carcinogens, pyrophorics, irritants, toxins, and offensive odors).

The employee is exposed to minimum noise level in the work environment.

The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee is regularly required to sit.
